Active Older Adult Programs

Senior Program Information

As many of you know, there was a water main break at the San Marcos Activity Center that caused substantial water damage. All activities at the facility are canceled indefinitely. It is too early to tell how long the repairs will take. We are still assessing the damages but we don’t anticipate opening until sometime next year. We will send out updated information as it becomes available.

We have moved most of our programs to Dunbar Recreation Center, located at 801 Martin Luther King Drive. Programs moved to Dunbar include: Bingo, Game Day, Group Game Time, the Hope Hospice Seminar and Limited Balance. We have also moved the Advanced Quilting and Beginning Sewing, Life Long Learning classes to Dunbar. Step by Step Painting and Introduction to Painting with Watercolors, already scheduled to take place at Dunbar,  will go on as scheduled. Our Adult Pickleball program will not resume until the Activity Center reopens. Thank you for your patience while we deal with this unfortunate situation.

Make sure to visit our Active Older Adult Special Events Page for information on upcoming special programs!

Masks at the San Marcos Activity Center and other City facilities are optional. Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms is discouraged from entering a City facility, park, or recreational area

All participants in any San Marcos Parks and Recreation Program must agree that they have read and understand the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department Release and Waiver of Liability.  Please click here to view and sign the Release and Waiver of Liability..

For those not ready to attend in-person, indoor Active Older Adult programs, the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department is still your go to place for recreation, leisure, education, health, and wellness resources through COVID-19. We are committed to ensuring that our community members have the resources to maintain healthy and meaningful lives while they wait to return to in-person events. Please visit our Active Older Adult Virtual Recreation Page  and our Virtual Recreation Center for numerous activities, classes, tours and adventures for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.

Objective

The primary objective of the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Active Older Adult Program is to enhance the quality of life of active, older adults in San Marcos and the surrounding area. Our goal is to promote a healthy, active lifestyle by providing quality informational, educational, physical and social enrichment opportunities.

Additional Information

You may have noticed when registering for classes, many state that they are for ages 60 and above.  This is because the “senior” discount at The San Marcos Activity Center is now available for individuals aged 60 and above. We will be using age 60 when referring to “senior” activities, to avoid any confusion.  Our Active Older Adult programs will be for ages 60 and above unless otherwise noted.
