Adult Pickleball is back at the Activity Center! It is now under the supervision of the Athletics Division of San Marcos Parks and Recreation. It is still very popular in the senior community and a great exercise for seniors so it will continue to be advertised on the Active Older Adult page as well as an athletic activity. It is offered from 8:30—11:30 AM on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for adults aged 18 and above. Six courts are available during this time, three in each gym. Three courts are designated as competitive courts and three courts as recreation courts. This helps us accommodate advanced and beginner level Pickleball players. Participants must bring their own paddles and ball. Adult Open Play Pickleball is also offered Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2-4 PM on 3 courts.
All players must agree that they have read and understand the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department Release and Waiver of Liability and will have to agree to the waiver when attending Pickleball at the Activity Center. Click here to view and sign the Release and Waiver of Liability. The Adult Pickleball Open Play rules and guidelines are subject to change without notice.
Pickleball is a cross between badminton, tennis and ping-pong. It is played on a badminton-sized court 20 feet by 44 feet with wooden paddles, a wiffle ball and a net that is lowered to 34 inches. Players volley the ball back and forth to try to score on the opposition. It was designed to be easy to learn for people of all ages and athletic abilities. In the past 10 years the growth of Pickleball has exploded mainly in senior communities throughout the United States.
Pickleball is free for Activity Center members. Nonmembers will be charged the daily use rate of $6.00 for adults aged18 to 60 and $3.00 for ages 60 and above.
