Status of Investigation
The San Marcos Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced that they have ruled the fire was intentionally set and ATF is offering up to a $10,000 reward for information leading to identification and/or arrests.
People with information on the suspect or suspects responsible for setting this fire should call 1-888-ATF-TIPS or email Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Tips.
Through the course of the investigation it was determined that battery-powered smoke alarms, compliant with Texas Property Code 92.255, were installed within individual apartments. Reference: Texas Property Code 92.255; amended on July 18, 2015.
