Homebuyer Assistance Program

Are you interested in buying a home in San Marcos? The City of San Marcos provides financial assistance to eligible low-income homebuyers to purchase a home in San Marcos. Homebuyers with incomes less than 80% of area median income who have not purchased a home within the last three years may be eligible for a zero-interest, deferred forgivable loan of up to $12,000. These funds can be used toward closing costs or down payment. Qualifying is easier than you think! City staff will work with you and your lender. Funding is available now and will be awarded on a first come first served basis.

Austin Habitat for Humanity along with the City of San Marcos now offering a FREE homebuyer education workshop for San Marcos Residents at the San Marcos Public Library on July 9 from 10 am to 3 pm. Register by calling 512-472-8788, ext 138, or email ccook@ahfh.org.

Before you apply:

The Homebuyer Assistance Program assists with closing the down payment gap on the home you have selected.  The City of San Marcos does not refer applicants to realtors or lenders, and you must submit lending documents with the pre-approved address of the home you are to purchase.

If you need assistance with selecting a realtor, or improving your credit,  The City of San Marcos and Austin Habitat for Humanity have come together to make buying a home easier for you. Habitat for Humanity provides free sessions on the fourth Saturday of the month that can help you prepare for homeownership before applying for our program.  Simply click on the link below to get started and find out more about understanding your credit, getting a mortgage loan, money management and preparing for homeownership.
