The San Marcos Activity Center Natatorium is open by appointment only when we are able to safely re-open the Activity Center. Swimmers and water walkers can sign up for a reservation here.
Rio Vista Pool will be opening May 25th 2021.
Hours: Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Closed on Mondays and Thursdays.
12pm-1pm Adult Swim.
1pm-6pm Open Swim.

Level 1 Youth Swim Lessons
Youth Swim Lessons, Level 1 helps students feel comfortable in the water. Learn-to-Swim Level 1 participants receive a Raffy Learns to Swim full color booklet that reinforces learning and provides parents with additional information about their child’s progress.
Learning Objectives
Level 1 participants learn to:
- Enter and exit water safely
- Submerge mouth, nose and eyes
- Exhale underwater through mouth and nose
- Open eyes underwater
- Pick up submerged object
- Float on front and back
- Explore arm and hand movements
- Swim on front and back using arm and leg actions
- Follow basic water safety rules
- Use a life jacket
Level 2 Youth Swim Lessons
Youth Swim Lessons, Level 2 gives students success with fundamental skills. Learn-to-Swim Level 2 participants receive a Raffy Learns to Swim full color booklet that reinforces learning and provides parents with additional information about their child’s progress.
Learning Objectives
Level 2 participants learn to:
- Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side
- Exit water safely using ladder or side
- Submerge entire head
- Open eyes underwater
- Pick up a submerged object
- Float on front and back
- Perform front and back glide
- Roll over from front to back and back to front
- Swim on side
- Swim on front and back using combined strokes
- Tread water using arm and leg motions
- Move in the water while wearing a life jacket
Level 3 Youth Swim Lessons
Youth Swim Lessons, Level 3 builds on the skills in Level 2 through additional guided practice. Learn-to-Swim Level 3 participants receive a Waddles in the Deep full-color booklet that reinforces class instruction to help swimmers develop confidence in their strokes and improve other aquatic skills.
Learning Objectives
Level 3 participants learn to:
- Jump into deep water from the side
- Dive from kneeling or standing position
- Submerge and retrieve an object
- Bob with the head fully submerged
- Use rotary breathing in horizontal position
- Perform front and back glide
- Perform survival float
- Perform front and back crawl
- Butterfly-kick and body motion
- Perform the HELP and Huddle position
- Perform a reaching assist
Level 4 Youth Swim Lessons
Youth Swim Lessons, Level 4 develops confidence in the skills learned and improves other aquatic skills. Learn-to-Swim Level 4 participants receive a Waddles in the Deep full-color booklet that reinforces class instruction to help swimmers develop confidence in their strokes and improve other aquatic skills.
Learning Objectives
Level 4 participants learn to:
- Perform shallow dive or dive from stride position
- Swim underwater
- Perform feet-first surface dive
- Perform open turns on front and back using any stroke
- Tread water using sculling arm motions and kicks
- Perform the following:
- Breaststroke
- Butterfly
- Elementary backstroke
- Front and back crawl
Level 5 Youth Swim Lessons
Youth Swim Lessons, Level 5 provides further coordination and refinement of strokes.
Learning Objectives
Level 5 participants learn to:
- Backstroke flip turn
- Breaststroke
- Butterfly
- Elementary backstroke
- Front and back crawl
- Front flip turn
- Learn survival swimming
- Perform the following:
- Perform rescue breathing
- Pike surface dive
- Shallow dive, glide two body lengths and begin any front stroke
- Standing dive
- Tread water with two different kicks
- Tuck surface dive
Parent & Tot Swim Lessons
Swim Lessons for Parents and Tots is designed for children 6 months to 5 years of age. The program builds swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in 8 guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills including;
- Back floating
- Bubble blowing
- Front kicking
- Under water exploration
- Water entry
Once children can perform basic skills without parental assistance, they may begin level 1.
Private Swim Lessons
Private Swim Lessons are for all ages, (children 6 months and up) and you will four 30 minute one-on-one instruction sessions. Private lessons are custom designed for each individual to work at their own pace; whether it is to improve your stroke, learn new skills, gain endurance or learn how to swim for the first time. After registering, the instructor will contact you to customize your swim lesson schedule and place you in the appropriate level to fit your needs.
