How do I become a Ranger?
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Have 2 years of public safety experience (Police, Fire, EMS, Corrections, Probation, Park Ranger, etc).
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Ability to swim; may have to pass a swim qualification test.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ranger experience
- Familiarization with rope rescue operations
- Familiarization with police procedures and radio operations. TCOLE Peace Officer License is preferred.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or ECA certification is preferred and is required within one year of employment.
- Swift Water or White Water Rescue Technician certification is preferred and is required within one year of employment.
- ATV driver’s license is preferred and is required within one year of employment.
